MISSION STATEMENT

Lewisville Area Homeschool Speech & Debate Club (LAHSD) is a Christian speech and debate club for homeschooled students.  We support the mission of the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA) by facilitating the training necessary for homeschooled students to practice and sharpen analytical and oratorical skills from a biblical worldview.  NCFCA tournaments provide checkpoints throughout the season for students to prepare, practice and polish speeches and debate cases.  The mission of our club is to raise up Christian leaders who can articulate their values to an unbelieving world, by facilitating the training necessary to prepare students for NCFCA competition.

Student and club success depends on parental involvement.  Parents continually have volunteer responsibilities (see Membership Requirements page).  LAHSD is a family club, not a rhetoric class.  Come and catch the vision!  Learn with your child.  Read the debate books together.  Make time in your daily school schedule for your child to spend on speech/debate.  At one point, we parents knew nothing about rhetoric.  We encourage you to jump in and be blessed alongside your children.  Parental input, especially from fathers, is invaluable (particularly in debate).  As students progress in club, they will assume leadership roles.
