2009-10 TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

Both spring and fall semesters offer opportunities for competition.  Fall semester offers warm-ups, round robins and practice tournaments to prepare students for NCFCA spring competition season.

This page will be updated as event coordinators receive information.  Please check often during tournament season.

TYPES OF TOURNAMENTS

Round Robins/Practice Tournaments are 1-2 day tournaments offered in the fall.  Students speak during every round, no eliminations.  This is great practice for competition and you’ll receive valuable ballot feedback to help sharpen and prepare you for competition.

Qualifying Tournaments are any of the numerous feeder tournaments in which a competitor can earn an invitation to the Regional Invitational Tournament.  These tournaments are organized and planned according to NCFCA rules and guidelines by the Regional Coordinator and the State Representatives within a region (we are in Region IV which consists of Arizona, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma & Texas).

Regional Invitational Tournaments are held in each region at the end of that region’s competitive season.  Invitations to this tournament are earned by competitors who meet a set of criteria at previous qualifying tournaments.  You must receive an invitation in order to compete in this tournament.  The top competitors at this tournament will proceed to the National Championship.

National Open Tournaments are held in diverse locations each competitive season.  These tournaments are designed to be very large, attract competitors throughout the country, and offer all league events.  No invitation is required in order to compete (which is why it is called an “Open”).  The top competitors from the National Open Tournaments will proceed to the National Championship.  Opens are organized and run by NCFCA with assistance from local co-sponsors and/or hosts.

National Championship is the highest level of competition within NCFCA.  Nationals is held in June each year.  The location changes from year to year and will be located anywhere within the country.
